Snow fell. Skies brightened to blooded-gold at even’s early setting. Two deer, shy and wary, broke through a dilapidated fence, at garden’s end – and, vast mountains a backdrop behind them, nibbled at the green lusciousness still visible. One looked relaxed; the other, slower to trust, kept out of sight. Phone’s scritching image taken sound did not penetrate window’s glass, though early morning light was captured too.
I smile whenever I see this. The deer, deep in snow but feeding still; the red plant, inside the house but appearing to be part of the garden scene; the white of snow – and the warmth of friendship beyond the brief photographic moment, taken in a second.
